Nike releases new Tiger Woods commercial

On the eve of Tiger’s return to Augusta, Nike, one of the few companies that stood by the famous golfer released a new TV ad on The Golf Channel. In black and white, it features a serious Tiger staring at the camera with his late father’s voice as the soundtrack.

Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything?”

Green Design Techniques Survey

The following is an email I received today from a former co-worker about a survey of green design techniques. Please take a moment to complete the survey.


Hi Eric:

Hope this note finds you well. I found your blog and website insightful. I am on the cusp of graduating with my MFA in Graphic Design and sending out this email tonight to all the folks that I have worked with to take the Green Design Technique survey.

This survey is being conducted for my thesis project development for Green Design Techniques.

I am corresponding with everyone that I have worked with to take the survey. Can you assist me in my research project by taking the survey and passing on to your design friends. My goal is to have at least 500 LA community entered for the green design survey by February 24th.

Greenpeace ads age heads of states to 2020

Besides turning heads, these ads, sponsored by Greenpeace in partnership with TckTckTck, are turning heads at the airport in Copenhagen where heads of states will converge for this month’s U.N. Climate Change Conference. The ads are not without controversy with some industry observers calling the campaign “lame” and “dour.” However Greenpeace says the reaction have been “phenomenal.”

Whether these ads will urge world leaders to take more drastic action to reverse climate change is uncertain, but what is certain is that the images on these posters, coupled with the urgency of the message they deliver, are distinctly eye catching and can not be ignored.

Ayres Hotels, KFI and Salvation Army have come together once again to host an ALL DAY Radiothon in hopes of beating last year’s colletion record of non-perishable food for the hungry here in Orange County!

KFI Radio personalites will be broadcasting their shows live at Ayres Inn Orange while informing listeners of this amazing opportunity to help our neighbors.

Come by, drop off non-perishable food or make a cash donation, listen to the live broadcasts and make a difference to those who do not have enough to eat this year.

‘Unfriend’ Beats Out ‘Birther,’ ‘Death Panel,’ ‘Tramp Stamp’ For Oxford Word Of The Year

The New Oxford American Dictionary announced today on its blog that the 2009 Word Of The Year is “unfriend.”

Unfriend – verb – To remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook. As in, ‘I decided to unfriend my roommate on Facebook after we had a fight.’

According to Christine Lindberg, Senior Lexicographer for Oxford’s U.S. dictionary program, “unfriend” was chosen because “it has both currency and potential longevity.”

She continues:

In the online social networking context, its meaning is understood, so its adoption as a modern verb form makes this an interesting choice for Word of the Year. Most “un-” prefixed words are adjectives (unacceptable, unpleasant), and there are certainly some familiar “un-” verbs (uncap, unpack), but “unfriend” is different from the norm. It assumes a verb sense of “friend” that is really not used (at least not since maybe the 17th century!).

Iconix could make Playboy work: Kill the mag, take the sex out of the brand

// Playboy (PLA) tends to be associated with the magazine and sex. Not the hardcore, nasty kind, of course — Playboy has always been more than a tad distinguished, staying above board while the adult entertainment industry has chosen to compete in ways that my editor would delete if I even attempted.

With Iconix said to be interested in acquiring Playboy, it needs to think about where it can win with the ailing brand. The smart move may be to ditch the magazine and move away from sex — it can’t compete in either of these markets. Then, it needs to figure out how to make the brand relevant to everyone not in the Boomer generation … or treat Playboy as an investment with a clock on it.
